Joann Wilson: Owen, let's start at the beginning. How did you discover your passion for illustration? Can you tell us about your artistic journey?
Owen Lancaster: Certainly! As a child, I was always fascinated by picture books and the illustrations within them. The vibrant colors and captivating characters sparked my imagination. I started drawing at a young age, and my family encouraged me to pursue my artistic inclinations. Throughout school, I focused on refining my skills and experimenting with different mediums. Eventually, I decided to pursue a degree in Fine Arts, specializing in illustration. That was the turning point for me, and I've been dedicated to this craft ever since.
Joann Wilson: Your illustrations have a distinct style. How would you describe it, and what inspires you?
Owen Lancaster: My style can be best described as whimsical and surreal. I love incorporating elements of fantasy into my work, creating dreamlike scenes that transport viewers to another world. Nature and wildlife are significant inspirations for me. I find inspiration in the intricate details of flora and fauna, and I often incorporate them into my illustrations. Moreover, mythology, folklore, and literature also play a crucial role in shaping my creative vision.
Joann Wilson: Your use of color is truly remarkable. How do you approach color palettes in your illustrations?
Owen Lancaster: Color is a vital aspect of my work. When approaching a new project, I begin by establishing the mood and atmosphere I want to convey.
